Where It All Began
The Story Behind the Story
From Granna's Imagination to the Pages of a Book
Some of life's sweetest memories aren't made during big celebrations or fancy vacations. Sometimes, they're made in the quiet moments, when little ones are snuggled up beside you, waiting to hear a story.
And that's exactly how The Adventures of Frank & Faye began.
“Granna, can you tell us another Frank and Faye story?”
Granna, Can You Tell Us Another Story?
For years, I've had the joy of telling stories to my grandchildren. It became one of our special traditions. They would settle in, ready to listen, and before long, I'd hear those familiar words:
“Granna, can you tell us another Frank and Faye story?”
Well, how could I possibly say no to that?
So, with a little imagination and a whole lot of love, Frank and Faye came to life.
There were fishing trips, childhood mishaps, new friendships, funny situations, and plenty of lessons learned along the way. Sometimes I'd find myself wondering what those two would get into next!
And the wonderful thing about storytelling is that you never quite know where your imagination will take you.
As the years passed, those stories became more than just bedtime entertainment. They became treasured memories, filled with laughter, curiosity, and those special moments that grandparents hold close to their hearts.
Stories That Teach
But there was something else I wanted these stories to do.
You see, after spending much of my life as a nurse and educator, I've always believed that some of the most meaningful lessons are learned through everyday experiences. And children have a wonderful way of learning when they're enjoying a good story.
That's why each adventure ends with a little life lesson. Whether it's about kindness, honesty, friendship, responsibility, or making good choices, my hope is that children will enjoy the story and take away something meaningful, too.
Why I Decided to Write the Book
Preserving the Stories
One day, I began thinking about all those stories I'd shared with my grandchildren. What if I could preserve them? My husband Jack had been encouraging me for some time to do just that — to write the stories down so they wouldn't be lost. And so, I did.
And what if other parents and grandparents could make these stories part of their own family traditions?
That's when I decided it was time to put Frank and Faye's adventures into a book.
The first book introduces readers to a brother and sister whose family moves from Cypress, Texas, to the little country community of Bosqueville, near Waco. As they settle into their new surroundings, Frank and Faye discover that life is full of surprises. There are new friends to meet, adventures to enjoy, and sometimes a little trouble waiting just around the corner.
But through it all, they learn that family, friendship, and the choices we make are what truly matter.
From My Family to Yours
Although I've worn many hats throughout my life — nurse, professor, author, and podcast host — my favorite title will always be Granna.
Being a grandmother has brought me more joy than I could ever put into words. And knowing that these stories began with my own grandchildren makes this book especially dear to my heart.
The Adventures of Frank & Faye is written for boys and girls ages 8–12 who enjoy reading on their own. But it's also perfect for parents and grandparents to read aloud to younger children.
My hope is that these stories will bring laughter into your home, spark conversations around the dinner table, and perhaps even become part of your family's bedtime traditions.
And don't you worry — Frank and Faye aren't finished having adventures! There are more stories to come, and I can't wait to share them with you.
So, from one grandmother's heart to your family, thank you for welcoming Frank and Faye into your home. Grab a comfy chair, gather the kiddos, and enjoy the adventure!
